Rotary e-clubs are clubs that meet online. For many members, this new way of experiencing Rotary offers the benefits of a Rotary club, with added flexibility. Other than meeting online to conduct club business, Rotary e-clubs are essentially the same as any other Rotary club: club members carry out service projects, support The Rotary Foundation, and socialize and network with each other. The main difference? E-clubs are accessible 24/7.
About Rotary eClub of Pune
The Rotary eClub of Pune, which was chartered on 19th August 2013, is the first-ever eClub in RI District 3131. It also happens to be the 100th club in the district. This club has been sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pune Sports City. Under the leadership of District Governor Dr. Deepak Shikarpur and the able guidance of our GSR PDG Dr. Mahesh Kotbagi, the eClub was formed with Rtn. Dimakh Sahasrabuddhe as the Charter President.
Why Rotary eClub of Pune
In the year 2010, following a six-year pilot project by Rotary International, Rotary e-clubs were formally recognized as part of Rotary International. The "Rotary eClub of Pune" was initiated in 2013 to cater to the needs of the fast-changing professional environment. With people having lesser and lesser time on hand due to business / family commitments, juggling physical meetings at different times and locations becomes an extremely challenging task. At the same time, the proliferation of the Internet has ensured that our communication has gone global. Today we are able to interact with family, friends, business associates and others through a virtual medium. Utilizing the power of this online medium is the very essence of this eClub.
What is the difference between other Rotary clubs and the Rotary eClub of Pune?
This eClub is in all respects similar to a regular Rotary club of District 3131, with one major difference – there is no weekly physical meeting place. Instead, members have the liberty to attend meetings online at their own convenience during the week. The official meeting time has been fixed to be every Tuesday at 9PM IST. This would be the day when the webmaster or the club secretary uploads the meeting material for weekly discussions.
If the members so choose, they can enjoy a fellowship wherein they attend the meeting together (virtually) at a chosen location and time.
How does the Rotary eClub of Pune operate and function?
E-club meetings are hosted on the club website: www.rotaryeclubpune.org . Each week, similar to a regular Rotary meeting, a topic or a speaker is chosen. The meeting material or the speaker’s talk is uploaded on the eClub website every Tuesday. Members can view the talk anytime in the next 7 days and mark their attendance online – participation in the meetings through online questions or comments guarantees positive attendance. Members may access the site at their convenience at any point during the week. The eClub also conducts a live session once a month on Google Hangout where members and guests are encouraged to join. To respect the privacy of e-club members, some meeting content or member data is protected from public view.
